FOR KIDS THAT LOVE TO READ or NEED TO READ MORE:
Books can be an adventure, a new place to travel to within your mind. Below are various resources to help parents, teachers, educators, stay at home moms, home schooled, and anyone else that has kids or works with kids.
Getting kids to take the adventure can sometimes be a chore. But it’s a worthwhile chore.
Spark Growth – a facebook page dedicated to helping kids grow through literacy.
Pinterested Parent – a wonderful page with great crafts for kids.
The below resources can help both groups of kids:
- Favorite and Recommended Books –
- Saturday AM – Manga for everyone – If your kids like to read manga, this is a newer company based in the US. The authors and artists are mostly unknown and this is a great way to support them and give your kids something to read.
- Paper – 8 Actions to encourage your child to read
- Post – Amazon Prime Box – monthly book club delivering books to young readers
HELP FOR KIDS WANTING TO WRITE AND TELL STORIES:
In each of my books, I include a section at the back that has Words to Know and Create Your Own Stories. I encourage kids to read books and then write stories in that world with those characters. There’s no better way to take a trip than to create that trip yourself.
Paper: Writing during the shutdown – a list of writing activities for kids
Paper: Write a book – guidance and step by step plan to help kids write a full book
Post: Writing Prompts – Each week, Reedsy posts writing prompts for a weekly writing contest. Even if you don’t enter the contest, it’s a good place for writing prompts.
Post: Writing with balance – An activity to take a paragraph and practice rewriting it.
